MuchoTE Tequila
February 7, 2008
The latest hand-made tequila to hit US, MuchoTE had its debut January 29th in Colorado and is making its way across the nation. Each blue Tequilana Weber Agave that goes into making MuchoTE Tequila is hand selected for its sugar content (not weight). After the agave is selected and harvested they steam the piñas in adobe ovens for 3 days. MuchoTE Tequila is then aged in small charred American bourbon oak casks for 7 months which gives the tequila a full flavor and golden color. It is going to take a while for MuchoTE to propagate throughout the United States so I recommend that you pre-order your bottle online. More about MuchoTE.
Dos Lunas Grand Reserve
November 7, 2007
Dos Lunas has announced their launch of an extra añejo tequila, Dos Lunas Grand Reserve ($2,500). They are setting new standards for luxury tequila as they have made the worlds first commercially available tequila to be aged over 10 years (in sherry oak casks). The tequila is bottled in hand-blown, individually numbered Baccarat decanters. The luxury does not stop there; each bottle is housed in an ebonized wood box with an accompanying crystal stopper, sterling silver key and necklace. If the Grand Reserve is too pricey for you wait until next year (2008) when they unveil their fourth tequila, Dos Lunas Añejo. My guess is that the Añejo is not going to cost as much as the Extra Añejo. Press Release.

Partida is one of the fastest growing distilleries that we have wrote about. They have added a new member to their line, Partida Elegante Tequila ($350) is their latest ultra-premium spirit which will be available this fall. It is an extra añejo tequila which is aged more than 36 months in American oak. They use only estate grown 100% blue agave, which is hand harvested and cooked in stainless steel autoclaves. The bottle comes in a gift box with a crystal top. To top it off they added a Mexican sterling silver Partida Tequila Spirit Bird on a black leather strap tied around the neck of the bottle.
Dos Lunas Tequilas
August 10, 2007
Dos Lunas ($50) ultra-premium tequilas are not only 100% Blue Agave, but all-natural and award-winning. Bottled in the highlands of Jalisco, Dos Lunas Silver holds the aroma of leather, oil, and dark roasted pineapple. A soft, round entry leads to a dryish, glycerous medium-bodied palate with charred tropical fruits, honey, whipped cream, and peppery spices. Dos Lunas Reposado is aged for nine months using a combination of used Tennessee Whiskey barrels and new American White Oak – charred barrels. Dos Lunas Reposado scored highest (94 Points) and was awarded Gold Medal in October 2006 at Chicago’s International Review of Spirits. This tequila finishes with a long, sweet and peppery fade of cream, dried tropical fruit, white pepper, and dusty minerals. The chemical-free fermentation and double distillation processes set Dos Lunas Tequila apart. In its first year, Dos Lunas Tequila has expanded to Texas, Florida, Colorado, and New Mexico, and is also available in Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Alberta, Canada.
