Core Duo meets Desktop

May 22, 2006

Intel's Core Duo meets the desktop
For all you gamers out there Bit-tech.net has posted an amazing review on the possibility of Core Duo chips inside desktops and come up with some pretty interesting results

“What’s faster than an AMD Athlon FX-60? Well, an Intel Core Duo overclocked on a fantastic AOpen board based on the 975X chipset. We get to grips with Intel’s portable processing powerhouse in a desktop board and contemplate – is this a sign of things to come?”

Intel’s Core Duo meets the desktop

Everyone knows that Sony makes a lot of mistakes (most recently the lack of HDMI on one upcoming models of the PS3) but sometimes they do a damn good job. Sony Ericsson’s New W24S 3G phone is packed with features including:

“the W42S packs in a cool 1GB of internal memory which can be supplemented with up to 4GB of Memory Stick Pro DUO expansion and sports a power saving mode allowing up to 30 hours of music playback. This 3G (CDMA2000) slider also features a 1.3 megapixel cam, a 2.2-inch, 240 x 320, 262k color LCD, FM radio, an EPG to keep you hip to the TV schedule, and a feast of dedicated player controls including a new mechanical wheel unique to Walkman phone navigation.”

Coming in a variety or colors as well its nice to see the Japanesse are finally getting a taste of some high quality music phones Read the rest of this entry »

pioneer_bluray.jpg

Now before anyone gets upset, i know PS3 has yet to be released and Blu-Ray prices will likely drop some by then but the current prices are a little tough to handle. With online merchants starting to post prices around $999 for the drive the high price of the upcoming PS3 with its Blu-Ray capabilities looks to be quite a bargin

“Pioneer’s BDR-101A Blu-ray burner, one of the first products of its kind to hit store shelves. The 2X E-IDE internal burner for PCs is now available from Tiger Direct for $999.99, and the etailer claims it will ship units in “7-21 days.”

The PS3’s Blu-Ray drive will of course not be able to write onto the 25GB or 50GB-DL Blu-Ray dics but it will function as a relativley low cost alternative to playing Blu-Ray media (That is of course you decide to pay the extra money and get the PS3 wtih HDMI so you will be able yo take advantage of the technology, shame on you sony for not including it onto you cheaper model PS3) With every new technology there will always be a premium to pay to get it first but for $999 i think ill wait for PS3 or my local best buy to start sellin Blu-Ray drives for

macbook

The past fewweeks we have been hearing alot of about the MacBook Pros overheating. After apple discretely updated their firmware, they still are taking no chances and are including a warning in the manual stating “Do not leave the bottom of your MacBook Pro in contact with your lap or any surface of your body for extended periods. Prolonged contact with your body could cause discomfort and potentially a burn”. Stupid Apple making laptops not for the lap.

There are two game trailers that caught my eye this week, which are: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.

The Quake Wars is a trailer composed entirely of gameplay footage, from a third person pov. The game looks very much like Battlefield 2, what makes it different is that it takes place in the not to distant future. This game is going to blow Halo2 and Battlefield 2142 out of the water for sure. id Software never fails to deliver when it comes to their Quake series. No word yet on when this game will be released. Check out the trailer below:

Command & Conquer 3 is currently in development at EALA, it will ship in 2007 for Windows PC. Here is an excerpt from an April 20, 2006 press release:

“Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars combines fast-paced gameplay with new ways to tell a story in an RTS game,” said Mike Verdu, Executive Producer at EA Los Angeles (EALA). “We’re building a next generation Command & Conquer game that is true to the spirit of this classic franchise, but is updated with state-of-the-art visuals, added strategic depth, and gameplay innovations that will move the genre forward. I am very excited to be working on this amazing game.”
