Abt Audi R8

February 7, 2008

This Audi R8 has been upgraded by Germany’s Abt Sportsline. Since the R8 is already a vehicle of perfection Abt did very little engine work. Most of the modifications were done to the body which include:

  • Carbon fiber skirts and rear spoiler.
  • Replacement front and rear clips that tone down the oversized factory grillework.
  • Front openings are now angled and feature colored CF inserts.
  • A new rear bumper cover w/ diffuser-style bottom, smaller vents, and outlets for the exhaust tips.

January is one of the biggest months of the year when it comes to announcing new products (CES, Macworld, etc…) and the Detroit Auto Show is no different. On display this year was the 2008 Lexus LF-A Roadster Concept. The LF-A Roadster is based on the highly anticipated LF-A coupe and features a lightweight carbon-fibre and aluminum body as well a a high-revving V10 engine that is nearly 5.0 liters in displacement and puts out more that 500hp. Unfortunately is still a concept but hopefully lexus will turn this roadster into a reality as soon as possible

Recently at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany, Lamborghini introduced their newest super-car, the Reventon. Bacically the Reventon is a Murcielago on steroids, the car features a 650 hp V-12 engine and extensive carbon fiber body work to lower the weight of the car by as much as possible. Most interestingly though the car will feature a fully customizable instrument panel, similar to those found on fighter jets. This allows for the drive to switch between classic circle gauges or a more futuristic style display. Unfortunately Lamborghini only plans to build 20 cars and all of them are already spoken for at the cool price of $1 million dollars.

Brammo, the makers of the Ariel Atom have decided to go green with their latest super-car. Instead of the original gas guzzling V12 engine, the Enertia GT will now sport a completely electric engine. The car will be just as quick off the line, however top speed may suffer. The price of the Ariel Atom is $40,000 ($90,000 with all upgrades). There is no word on how much the electric Enertia GT will cost, the electric motor shouldn’t offset the price too much. Someone needs to get one of these and race the X-Bow.

audi_r8_hr_28.jpg

As we all know Audi has released the R8 sports car into this world to compete with the Porsche and other high end sports car manufactures. However whats new is that the R8 will receive a Diesel engine in the near future. Audi has dominated the world of motor sports with their diesel engines, most recently with there overall victory at the 24 hours of Le Mans. Therefore its no surprise that their newest sports car will also receive a diesel power plant in addition to their current gasoline based V8 in the R8. While displacement and size is not currently known there are plenty of diesel power plants from Audi’s other vehicles, such as a 3.0L V6, a V12 (shown in the Q7), and a 4.2L V8. However currently the most probable engine of choice will be the 4.2L V8 for the new diesel R8. The 4.2L V8 will put out 322hp/560lb-ft V8 and has the ability for a 0-60 time of five seconds and top end of 160mph all while managing to get 25mpgPhotos – Read the rest of this entry »

However with small production runs the X-Bow might be difficult to find but for those lucky enough to own a X-Bow it will certainly ensure a memorable day at the track
