Yamaha is jumping on the all-in-one tv stand bandwagon with their Polyphony YRS-1000. Basically its a central hub that efficiently manages all your components. The YRS-1000 is compatible with 46 types of flat-panel TVs and features; two HDMI units, built-in subwoofer, and 5.1 channel playback. So if you’re in the market for surround-sound and a tv stand, you might as well mix them together and get this. Its available now (Japan only) and is a great space saver for smaller living rooms. [via]

The first generation of ambient light TVs were ok but the were still severely lacking. Philips has officially announced their next product in their lineup of ambient lighting TVs. The 42-inch Philips Aurea sets incorporate the lighting directly into the frame, instead of using the previous method of a glass frame around the set. They will be 1080p and have a 3ms response time. In addition, there’s “four trillion colors” and three HDMI 1.3 inputs. On the audio side, it has 26 speakers embedded inside, in a combination of 24 front mini drivers and 2 subwoofer/mid speaker boxes. As far as contrast and brightness goes, it’s a 550cd/m2 display with a true and dynamic contrast ratio of 1200/8000 to one. Not a very impressive contrast ratio, however the ambient light makes up for it. It runs on the Perfect Pixel HD Engine picture quality platform. There is no word on price yet.

Asus recently introduced the C90, a new breed of laptops that allow the customer to upgrade nearly the entire laptop’s components in a matter of minutes. The C90 allows everything form the optical drive to the GPU and processor to be changed out easily by the customer. The C90 will start at a reasonable price of $1,500 and will include some useful ports such as eSATA and HDMI and allows the choice for a high-def optical drive for additional costs. According to ASUS the system’s CPU will be as easy as upgrading your desktops processor and the GPU will be just as easy and will consist of Nvidia 8600 and 8500 options. The new user-upgradeable components now allows laptops users to increase the performance of their machines without having to buy a complete replacement.

This year at Computex 2007 (one of the largest computer hardware trade shows on the planet) several companies are displaying some radical new designs for basic computer components. One of thoee new designs is ThermalRight’s new heatsink chassis. This new computer case is actually one giant heatsink built to help dissipate heat from the processor, perfect for a fan less HTPC application. the concept is very simple, inside, there’s a base plate that allows for contact with your processor, the base plate is then connected directly to the main body of the case, which allows for a completely unique and effective cooling solution.

Now before anyone gets upset, i know PS3 has yet to be released and Blu-Ray prices will likely drop some by then but the current prices are a little tough to handle. With online merchants starting to post prices around $999 for the drive the high price of the upcoming PS3 with its Blu-Ray capabilities looks to be quite a bargin

“Pioneer’s BDR-101A Blu-ray burner, one of the first products of its kind to hit store shelves. The 2X E-IDE internal burner for PCs is now available from Tiger Direct for $999.99, and the etailer claims it will ship units in “7-21 days.”

The PS3′s Blu-Ray drive will of course not be able to write onto the 25GB or 50GB-DL Blu-Ray dics but it will function as a relativley low cost alternative to playing Blu-Ray media (That is of course you decide to pay the extra money and get the PS3 wtih HDMI so you will be able yo take advantage of the technology, shame on you sony for not including it onto you cheaper model PS3) With every new technology there will always be a premium to pay to get it first but for $999 i think ill wait for PS3 or my local best buy to start sellin Blu-Ray drives for
