Dos Lunas Grand Reserve
November 7, 2007
Dos Lunas has announced their launch of an extra añejo tequila, Dos Lunas Grand Reserve ($2,500). They are setting new standards for luxury tequila as they have made the worlds first commercially available tequila to be aged over 10 years (in sherry oak casks). The tequila is bottled in hand-blown, individually numbered Baccarat decanters. The luxury does not stop there; each bottle is housed in an ebonized wood box with an accompanying crystal stopper, sterling silver key and necklace. If the Grand Reserve is too pricey for you wait until next year (2008) when they unveil their fourth tequila, Dos Lunas Añejo. My guess is that the Añejo is not going to cost as much as the Extra Añejo. Press Release.

Blair’s 16 Million Reserve Crystals
July 9, 2007
Even if you think you can handle the worlds hottest sauce, Blair’s 16 Million Reserve Crystals ($300) are probably too spicy for you. In this bottle is a 1ml vial of pure Capsaicin crystal. Measuring in at 16 million Scoville units, the crystals are 20 times hotter than the worlds hottest pepper. A Scoville unit is named after the pharmacist Wilbur Scoville who in 1912 invented a way to measure the heat of peppers by the levels of Capsaicin present (the chemical compound in hot peppers that is responsible for their heat). The Scoville scale ranges from 0 to 16 million. Tobasco sauce ranks in at only 2,500-5,000 Scoville units. There were only 999 bottles of Blair’s 16 Million reserve made, each one is sealed in gold and silver wax, numbered, and signed by Blair Lazar.
