This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Victorinox Swiss Army. All opinions are 100% mine.

Watches are becoming less and less prominent with the advancing of cell phones. New studies find that there are 10 billion cell phone subscriptions in the world which means roughly 150% of people have cell phones. That is a lot of people with multiple phones–sadly in this day and age watches have lost their glory of being a necessary mobile timepiece to cell phones. Regardless watches are far more classic and cost the same if not much more than a smartphone. If you are in the market for a new watch you can’t beat precision Swiss analog quartz movement found in Victorinox Swiss Army watches. My favorite is the Chrono Classic Guilloche which features; a Sapphire crystal w/anti-reflective treatment, stainless Steel case with guilloche dial, luminous hands and hour markers, a chronograph, engraved tachymeter scale, date calendar, and a stainless steel bracelet.

If you still think that your cell phone is more adequate than a watch consider this; Watches are water resistant unlike cell phones. Watches add classic style to your wardrobe. Cell phones become outdated almost every year due to advances in mobile technology. Watches can be passed down generation to generation and still look good. Imagine your great grandpas cell phone as a family heirloom (I know you wouldn’t use it). Victorinox Swiss Army is sponsoring an adventure challenge, share your story on their Facebook fan page for a chance to win $25,000!

Theses watches from designer Yvan Arpa are not only beautiful time pieces but are also made from the remains of the titanic. Apparently coal had been burned in the Titanic’s furnaces prior to its sinking and has been recovered and mixed with ceramics to create the black dials of the watches. A Swiss jeweler will be making the watches and they are going to be sold under the name “Titanic-DNA” and will be extremely rare as a limited run of only 2,012 will be produced. The watches will vary in price from $9,000 to $150,00 depending on your choice of silver, gold and/or diamonds customized on the watches.

The Only Watch event is coming again September 20th in Monaco. The Only Watch event is held yearly for watchmakers to design unique pieces that will eventually be auctioned off to benefit research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy. With that being said, some of the most unique watches are showcased. One watch that stood out from the rest was a masterpiece produced by Girard-Perregaux. “Unlike any other in the world, this is the first watch to combine perpetual calendar, the indication of time in 24 different international cities as well as the business hours of four major stock markets. The dial displays the date, the day of the week, the month and the moon phase. The mechanism takes into account the length of each month, allowing for the leap years without any manual adjustment before 2100. Two mobile rings on the dial show the opening hours of the New York, London, Hong Kong and Tokyo and the different times around the world”. Ideally this would be perfect for the international traveller, yet, I could still see many others finding this extremely fascinating.

About this time last year at Baselworld 2006, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève prize for electronic watches was awarded to Seiko for their breakthrough in electronic ink technology. Their watch featured a thin-yet-easy to read e-ink display all around the watch. This year they one-upped themselves with a new e-ink watch-style bracelet for females that features emotional technology. The new bracelet has different modes depending the wearers mood and what they are doing. There is an “Efficiency” mode which “the display is informative and easy to read”. There is also a “Mystery” mode where “the panel expresses the time in a more imaginative, evocative style”. There is no word on pricing, production, nor availability right now, but I hope to see these in stores sometime soon.
UPDATE: There are only 5 of these watches made. Production of these watches might be around fall 2007.
