June 21, 2007
Nvidia recently introduced their new general-purpose GPU platform based on the architecture of the 8-series graphics cards. These now cards basically bypass Moores’s law by joining the GPU and CPU together allowing for incredialbe increase in performance. All this raw computing power can be had in one of three configurations a single GPU PCI Express card ($1,499 ) , a dual-GPU “deskside supercomputer” that plugs into a custom PCI controller ($7,500) and the four-GPU Tesla S870 rack units, which has a peak performance of 2 Teraflops ($12,000). The card and deskside units should be available in August while the servers should start shipping in November or DecemberPhotos and Press Release – Read the rest of this entry »
30cm Cooling Fan and Heatsink
June 19, 2007
This is a new 30cm Fan and Heatsink Combo that was recently showcased at Computex 2007 as a concept design of a new cooling solution. The point of such a large cooling fan is that the larger the fan the slower it need to rotate to efficiently cool the heatsink. Therefore with a huge 30cm fan it will turn fairly slowly yet still be able to push enough air to cool just about anything. In addition the slow rotation of the fan allows for it to run nearly silent while providing plenty of airflow. Unfortunately this is purely a concept design so not much is known about it but I am glad to see new and innovative coolers and heatsink still being developedPhotos – Read the rest of this entry »

ThermalRight Demos New Heatsink Chassis
June 7, 2007
This year at Computex 2007 (one of the largest computer hardware trade shows on the planet) several companies are displaying some radical new designs for basic computer components. One of thoee new designs is ThermalRight’s new heatsink chassis. This new computer case is actually one giant heatsink built to help dissipate heat from the processor, perfect for a fan less HTPC application. the concept is very simple, inside, there’s a base plate that allows for contact with your processor, the base plate is then connected directly to the main body of the case, which allows for a completely unique and effective cooling solution.
