As we all know Charbay produces some of the worlds best spirits and their new batch of Meyer Lemon Vodka is no different. Charbay uses fresh Meyer Lemons (a cross between a lemon and a mandarin orange) and blend it with their award winning clear vodka to produce a drink that tastes like 100% real freshly picked Meyer Lemons. The secret is that Charbay shreds the lemons, skin and all to extract as much flavor as possible from them, giving the vodka a burst of flavor with every sip. This recent batch of Meyer Lemon Vodka almost never made to the market as the citrus freeze this past January nearly wiped out the crop of Meyer Lemons but thankfully they were picked at the perfect time and now we can all enjoy Charbay’s Meyer Lemon Vodka at around $30 a bottle.

THE VODKA THAT ALMOST WASEN’T: HOW NAPA VALLEY DISTILLERY BEAT THE FREEZE AND SAVED ITS MEYER LEMON VODKA

ST. HELENA, CA July 26, 2007 – “If we’d waited any longer to harvest the Meyer Lemon’s we literally wouldn’t have Meyer Lemon Vodka this year,” says Mark Karak asevic, 13th generation distiller at CHARBAY, a family-owned winery and micro-distillery in Napa valley. “The citrus freeze this past January was devastating for most growers, but luckily our fruit was perfect”

“We make our flavored vodkas once a year using 100 percent real fruit. Fortunately, we have a solid relationship with our growers so we were in constant contact during the crucial decision time of when to pick the fruit” says Karak asevic.

Charbay brings in whole fresh fruit directly from the orchards within 24 hours of picking. Charbay Meyer Lemon Vodka has been a best seller since 1998, with the newest batch hitting shelves and cocktail lists this month.

Meyer Lemon originated in China and were brought to the U.S. In 1980 by Frank Meyer, an agricultural inspector. They are thought to be a cross between a regular lemon and a mandarin orange. Charbay is the the only Vodka that uses Meyer Lemons to create the unique and authentic flavors enjoyed by vodka lovers.

Restaurants throughout the country have designed signature drinks around the Charbay Meyer Lemon Vodka. “It makes an awesome Meyer Lemon Mojito,” comments George Janek, Bar Manager at Meadowood Napa Valley.

Charbay retains the distinction of using exclusively whole, fresh ingredients. Marko shreds whole Meyer Lemons to extract flavor and color; that extraction is integrated into Charbay’s award winning clear Vodka. What you taste is 100% real freshly picked Meyer Lemons, not so-called “natural flavors”

This vodka was so delicious! I tried it with aquaice, which is purified ice and I could taste the vodka much better. I had to order it off of the internet at aquaice.com because I couldn’t find it in any stores…Has anyone heard of it or seen it in stores??
